To improve connection between South Asian communities playing in non-affiliated cricket environments and the existing talent pathway.
The South Asian Action Plan identified a lack of South Asian representation in professional cricket and the need to improve the balance at each stage of the talent pathway (County Age Group, Academies, 1st team squads). The action plan also identified a number of reasons behind this disparity at each stage (e.g. cultural differences, education pressures and unconscious bias). The first major barrier identified was in Talent ID, where there is a lack of a trusting engagement between non-affiliated cricket environments and the FCC CAG and academies. On the whole, FCC staff do not look for talent within non-affiliated leagues and clubs as they are not connected to them. Likewise, members of these communities do not yet have a trusting enough relationship with the FCC to be able to put players forward, even when the FCC do reach out.
The ECB SAAP proposed the creation of 'Community Talent Champions' to improve the connection between South Asian communities playing in non-affiliated cricket environments and the talent pathway.
