GMCL2021 GMCL20 Championship – Pool Games 2 July

2 Jul 2021

Update 2 July

Pool 1 - one to qualify for the Quarter-Finals - Winton have qualified
With both fixtured games this week being forfeited it is Winton who progress to the Quarter-Finals.

Pool 2 - two to qualify for the Quarter-Finals - Dukinfield Stags & Red Star Mottram have qualified
Red Star qualified with a solid win over the Scorpions as Andrew Metcalfe and Oliver Andrew posted scores of 63 and 60 at the top of the order in a first wicket partnership of 125. Wickets fell regularly in the Stayley innings to leave the 59 short.
In the other game played Hadfield St Andrews picked up their first win of the season after posting a very strong 249, with opener Richard Tranter leading teh way with 127 off 61 balls and an opening partnership of 130 with Ryan Murray, Despite 50 from Alex Beeley the Daredevils were 96 short to finsih with the wooden spoon.

Pool 3 - one to qualify for the Quarter-Finals - Werneth Warriors have qualified
Oldham West were able to beat their landlords in the final pool game of the season with Muneeb Ahmed smashing 127 off 51 balls to take them to 193. The Warriors started well with Dildar Shahzad also reaching a century with 115 off 61 but he had little support and they fell 16 short.  It was not enough to prevent the Warriors qualifying though.
The Tigers had looked strong but despite pro Imran Rafiq topping the batting for the Championship GMCL20 with 466 runs and topping the bowling with 13 wickets at 8.15 they didnt quite make the quarters despite a 101 run win against Springhead this week where Imran scored 143 off 59 balls to help the Tigers posted 242.

Pool 4 - one to qualify for the Quarter-Finals - Oldham Lions qualify
It is the Lions by a squeak on the NRR as both they and the Cavailers won this week. The Cavaliers only reached 134 thanks to Thunder's Joe Pattison taking 5 for 12 in a great spell but they were able to defend it restricting Thunder to just 104 for 6. Meanwhile the Lions had made 196 with runs throughout the order but Milnrow had a great go at chasing this down falling just 14 short, Adam Yates posted 56 but it was probably opening bowler Muhammad Choudhury's 3 for 17 that probably created the win for Oldham.

Pool 5 - one to qualify for the Quarter-Finals
Still all to play for as the Barging Bears beat second placed Totty Saints by 140 having posted 212 with Ashley Gowers 73 not out and Kyle Ogden 52. Russell Brooks took all 3 Bears wickets to fall with 3 for 31. 2 for 13 for Ashley Gowers, 2 for 14 for Robert Reade and best of the bunch 3 for 14 off 4 for Jack Dagg halted the Saints innings,

Pool 6 - one to qualify for the Quarter-Finals - Wythenshawe Lions qualify
The Lions qualify ahead of the Whalley Rangers after a 9 wicket win over the South Westermers. MOhammad Mahfooz had scored a run a ball 44 to keep the innings together but it never looked enough after the Lions openers bowled the first 5 overs for 3 for 16.  The Lions were 0 for 1 but Ryan Booth (32*) and Charlie Comym-Platt (73*) saw the Lions home without further loss.
The Rangers won on Friday by 33 runs at Stretford but it was too late to catch the Lions. Azan Holligan had scored 60 for the Rangers,

Pool 7 - one to qualify for the Quarter-Finals - Golborne Giants have qualified.
It was the battle of the top two this week with either able to qualify but it was the Giants who won by 5 wickets at Westleigh. Robert Entwistle had scored 58 but had little support as the Lions mustered only 110. Golborne took it steady to win with over 3 overs remaining, Adnan Raees top scoring with 50 off 26 balls.
In the other game this week Adlington set a decent 197-3 in their 20 overs with Saj Khan scoring 105 off 48 balls but Daisy Hill were up for the chase and scoring runs regularly (Michael Chilton 50) won the game on the first ball of the last over.
