Week 13 - 10 Jul 2021

CLIFTON VICTORIOUS AND GO TOP AS THE TOP TWO FACE OFF

Gareth Cross led the way for Clifton with 58 and 4 for 34 and Adam Holt continued his fine form with the bat to add another half century. Clifton posted 230 for 5 in their 48 overs. In reply DSL never got going and were in difficulties at 55 for 5 but Ben Tighe came in and top scored with 64 but no one else could build a score and the visitors fell 56 short.

Roe Green's progress was halted after 36 overs of the first innings and the game was abandoned whilst fourth placed Prestwich were winners at Astley & Tyldesley defending 156 by bowling out A&T for 133, Sam Holden's 76 and Alex Taylor's 4 for 15 did the damage with only de Silva starring for A&T with 3 for 22 and 54. The top four are now separated by just 6 points.

Heyside moved into a clear 5th with a 7 wicket win in a hurry at Greenfield, chasing down 234 with 80 from Chris Gill. Chirag Khurana led with the ball for Heyside taking 5 for 66. Alcindo Holder hit a swashbuckling 70 for Heyside with 6 6s and 7 4s in 43 balls but Ryan Barnes (45^) and Jack Avery (46*) finished the game off with 17 overs to spare.

In the middle of the table Woodbank brought themselves to within 3 points of Egerton with a close win with Dave Hamnett's 63* helping Egerton to 207 for 9. Woodbank made it home with one over and two wickets to spare despite pro Liyanage's 5 for 38 where he claimed the top 5 Woodbank batsmen however Gavin Nicholl (82) and Jack Wynn (59*) held the innings together and led Woodbank home.

Glodwick's woes continued as Moorside won well and they moved clear of the bottom three. It wasnt for lack of performance though as Goldwick's Arkam Zeer took 7 for 52 to record the day's best bowling performance but Snyman (88) and Wilkinson (75) were on form again to help Moorside to a good total. Mark Whitehead (52) held the Glodwick innings together but he was 8th man down with just 113 on the board and the visitors fell well short.

Next weekend sees 4th play 1st and 2nd place host 3rd, fireworks expected.

Adam Holt (Clifton) now has 779 league runs @77.90 after another half century and in the bowling it is still Steven Bliss (Roe Green) who leads the way despite not bowling this weekend, with 35 victims in 11 @ 14.60, but Gareth Cross now has the better average with 32 @14.19. In the MVP stakes it is Gareth Cross (Clifton) who leads the way with 179.77 points, 35 clear of Arkam Zeer (Glodwick).
