Weather goes our way again but worrying times as Covid is on the rise again, Please remember to keep your distance - your teams are not in a bubble so cannot celebrate in close contact and hand shakes between teams must be avoided.  

We are now pleased to be able to add highlights videos from acoss the league from grounds with cameras.

GMCL Saturday Competition

Premier League

Prestwich moved to the top of the table on net run rate following a 71 run home victory over Greenfield. Sam Holden top scored with 94 in their 285/6 before Greenfield were bowled out for 214 despite Ayaz Tasawar’s 128.

Moorside won for the second time in the Premier League in some style away to former leaders Roe Green. They made light work of the target of 186, winning by 7 wickets to take 6 points.

Denton St Lawrence are just one point behind the top two after their 31 run victory against Egerton. Adam Holt’s unbeaten ton saw Clifton home to a 5 wicket win over Astley & Tyldesley – a result which sees them sit in 4th. Flixton moved into the top half for the first time this season with a 112 run win at home to Heyside. The game between Woodbank and Glodwick was cancelled due to covid.

Edgworth defeated Bradshaw by 5 wickets to move ahead of their local rivals into 2nd spot in the table after 9 weeks.

Glossop jumped 3 places to 4th and are now only 1 behind Bradshaw following a heavy victory over Woodhouses. They posted 305/7 before bowling out Woodhouses some 167 runs short. Bonus point wins for Bury and Heywood mean that 7 teams are separated by 4 points. Ben Gorton’s 131* for Bury helped them to 277/4 against Royton, and Heywood chased 210 at Stand for the loss of just 3 wickets.

GMCL Championship

Heaton and Swinton Moorside scored sizeable first innings totals on their way to maximum points. Heaton scored 298/3 before bowling out Whalley Range for 82 and Swinton Moorside put together 316/8, a winning total after Friarmere’s 179.

Shaw and Westleigh (both pictured) and Stayley all picked up 6 points whilst chasing – Shaw making light work of Winton’s 203, chasing it 2 down, and Westleigh and Stayley both chased much lower targets at home to Uppermill and Edenfield. Brooksbottom continued their good run to move upto 3rd by defeating Elton.

Division 1

Thornham took advantage of this week’s fixtures to move to the top of Division 1 with a high scoring win over Milnrow. Andrew Micklethwaite scored 112 out of Thornham’s 319/3.

In a similar game, Golborne beat Denton by 109 runs to move upto second. Adnan Raees scored 177 and Denton fell short despite Usman Malik’s ton.

Prestwich 2s picked up an impressive win over Dukinfield who slip to 5th. Mottram dropped two places from top after falling 23 short of chasing Hadfield St Andrews’ 256/9 – Liam Doyle scored 126 for the hosts in the first innings. South West Manchester won for the third week in a row, Najeed Ahmad scored 68 and then took 5 wickets in their win over Oldham. Adlington jumped opponents Austerlands in the table after narrowly defending 172 in a 14 run victory.

Division 2A

Radcliffe comfortably defeated Stand 2s by 140 runs to close the gap to leaders Roe Green 2s to 5 points.

Worsley, Deane & Derby and ELPM all moved up a place after their wins. Worsley beat Daisy Hill after bowling them out for 100, ELPM chased 139 against Hindley SP and Deane & Derby crawled over the line to win at Elton 2s by 1 wicket.

Saddleworth made it 7 wins from 7 completed games with a straightforward 9 wicket win at Glossop 2s.

Werneth jumped ahead of DSL 2s in the standings with a 68 run win over them, a result which allowed Littleborough Lakeside to climb to second after their 108 run win over Ashton.

Micklehurst created a gap between them and the bottom 4 after defending 294 against Springhead in a high scoring affair. Glodwick 2s beat Wythenshawe by 10 wickets, with Zac McCannon taking six wickets before ending on 94*. Denton West 2s won for the second time this year over bottom-placed Whalley Range 2s, which takes them upto 8th.

Oldham 2s remain unbeaten with a 8 wicket win over Moorside 2s.

Flowery Field 2s made similarly light work of Heywood 2s,  Mottram 2s demolished Hadfield St Andrews 2s,

Friends United move upto 6th after scoring 269/8 and Greenfield 2s won at home to Newton Heath by 6 wickets. In the other game, Werneth 2s narrowly defended 199/8 against Friarmere 2s.

United Stars are the new league leaders following a 43 run win over Edgworth 2s, who suffer their 2nd defeat in a row.

Bolton Indians 2s inflicted Heaton 2s’ second defeat of the season upon them, Unsworth 2s pick up 6 points after chasing 199 just 2 down at Deane & Derby 2s and Clifton 2s beat Bradshaw 2s to move into the top half.

Division 4E

Unbeaten Woodhouses 2s and 2nd placed Ashton Ladysmith 2s continue to build on their large points margin to everyone else with victories in week 9.

Ashton 2s completed a run chase of 227 at Blackley and there were also successful run chases for Denton 2s and Failsworth Macedonia.

Wins for each of the top 5 in the standings this week.

Oliver Higgins scored 157 for the second week running as Heyside 2s scored 332 against Brooksbottom 2s. Thomas Robinson also took 8 wickets for Heyside 2s in the same game. Richard Doherty took 7 wickets for Shaw 2s in their win over Littleborough Lakeside 2s.

Joe Peacock’s ton helped league leaders Golborne 2s to 6 points with a 8 wicket win chasing 178 at Hindley SP.

Bury 2s, Friends Sporting and Swinton Moorside 2s make light work of their run chases. Westleigh 2s defeated Winton 2s after Connor Andrews’ ton and Worsley 2s chased 206 at Bolton Indians 2s for their second win of the season.

Edgworth are top after beating former leaders and 3rd placed Heaton by 112 runs. Royton took the chance to move 2nd after a similar scale win against Ladysmith.

Austerlands and Monton was a very close affair with both sides losing 9 wickets, Austerlands chasing were the winners.

Thornham 3s picked up their first win of the season to leapfrog Springhead.

Roe Green 3s are top of the pile after a 7 wicket win at Daisy Hill and the club's weekend teams are table toppers in all 3 divisions. 

A&T and Worsley leapfrog Daisy Hill into 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Denton West & Flowery maintained their top two places with wins this weekend.

Denton 3s picked up their first win of the season with a 45 run win against Whalley Range 5th team.

New boys Delph & Dobcross are enjoying GMCL life at the top of the table after another win, this time against Werneth.

Despite the image 2nd place Mottram won at Heyside by 5 wickets and Greenfield 4s won against Ashton to go third with 2 points separating the top 3.

Pool 1 - one to qualify for the Quarter-Finals
The Saints are unbeaten and look firm favourites to progress from Pool 1 with only the Falcons able to stop them but can Flowery Field halt their progress in the head to head game in the the last round
Pool 2 - two to qualify for the Quarter-Finals
A much tighter affair in Pool 2 with Prestwich and Cifton leading the way.  
Pool 3 -two to qualify for the Quarter-Finals
Shaw Spartans lead the way by 3 points but 5 clubs are within 3 points of each other so the next two weeks are going to be tight and tense affairs.
Pool 4 - one to qualify for the Quarter-Finals
It is Fury & the Earthquakes leading the way from 4 games but the Bullets nd the Bulls need to get their games in hand played following Covid breaks
Pool 5 - one to qualify for the Quarter-Finals
Its all to play for in Pool 5 with Flixton Fire having points on the board at the top, but the Renegades and the Gladiators have gamess in hand.

One extra team will qualify the highest point scorers/NRR between the 5 teams (2nd in Pools 1, 4 & 5 and 3rd in Pools 2 & 3)

With 4 games played, Lions, Thunder and Cavaliers are within three points, all still to play for in the last two rounds.

Lots of games still to play here as sides play catch up after early season rain.

Spitfires and the Lions sharing top spot play each other next week in a great finish to this pool

Giants lead with the Tigers and Lions tight behind, but the Giant have to play both their challengers.

GMCL Derek Kay 1st XI Cup


Derek Kay Cup R32

Moorside set all sorts of records at Westleigh after scoring 476/5 in their 45 overs. Vataly Wilkinson scored 165 and there was 129 from Jurie Snyman in a game where Westleigh lost by 309 runs despite reaching 167.

Liam Kilburn’s incredible knock of 99* from 31 balls (including 13 sixes) saw Denton West chase Brox’s 217 despite looking in trouble at 98/6.

Edgworth produced the only cup shock of the round with an excellent second innings performance to knock out Premier League Heyside. Christian Smith scored 101 with the bat before Umega Chathuranga and Michael Shore took 5 wickets each as Heyside were bowled out for 45.

Astley & Tyldesley and Roe Green both eased past fellow Premier League opposition, with Flixton and Woodbank heading out at this stage. Glossop made similarly light work of Heywood to book their Quarter Final place.


GMCL 1st XI Championship Cup


6 Jun 2021 - 1st XI Championship Cup R16

Shaw passed 300 for the second time in the weekend on their way to a 220 run win over Hadfield St Andrews.

Heaton bounced back from their defeat to Shaw on Saturday to score 300 themselves against South West Manchester, as did Deane & Derby and Uppermill, whose 306/9 included 176 from Kyle Hogg. Division 1 Golborne knocked out Championship Friarmere by 7 wickets and Edenfield saw off Micklehurst by 79 runs.

Hindley St Peters were victors by 3 wickets chasing down 145 at Werneth.

23 May 2021: John Barrow Trophy R1

Saddleworth, Blackley and United Stars all progress after chasing the totals set.

Division 2 sides Springhead and Worsley both exit the competition on bowl outs, with Friends United and Radcliffe making the draw for round 2.

Friends Sporting Club knock out Ashton Ladysmith to book their second round place.

Heaton, Friarmere, Denton St Lawrence, Bradshaw (pictured below) and Denton West are through to the next round with the biggest winners being Heaton by 151 runs and DSL by 8 wickets. 

Three games still to play with two games rearranged due to COVID.

13 Jun 2021: 2nd XI Championship Cup R2

Shaw, Woodhouses, Springhead, Westleigh, Bolton Indians, Austerlands and Swinton Moorside are all through to the next round, with Heyside v South West still to play. 

There were over 500 runs scored in three of the games, a great advert for 2nd XI cricket with Luke Grimes at Springhead taking the spoils with 119 to be top scorer in the round.
