Further Delay to Season Start Date

Season Start

At last nights Board meeting and after much discussion it was agreed to further delay the season.
Saturday 27^th April

The fixtures scheduled for Saturday 27th April will be moved to Sunday 16th June.
There are a few Sunday league games on June 16th which will then need to be arranged by clubs please.
Clubs should also be aware that there are GMCL20 games on Friday 14^th June so clubs are asked to cooperate to rearrange those fixtures if clubs do not wish to have a triple weekend.

Sunday 28^th April

Some clubs may be able to play their fixture on the scheduled date of the 28th April.

Junior Cricket

Some clubs may find they are able to stage junior fixtures scheduled for next week, if this is possible and safe to do so then that is an option clubs can take.

Please access your own clubs play-cricket website and start to familiarise yourselves with your club site, you can access your club site from the league page by clicking on the club badge.
Please note that GMCL cannot update club play-cricket sites and therefore clubs should update their own contacts list.
New Player and Transfers - League ApprovalsMany thanks to all players and clubs who have registered on Play Cricket, we have now over 3200 players registered.
Please ensure your players are registered before playing, you wont be able to load their details to score the game.
We are working hard to approve all registrations, before any game is played but we are not able to approve any new players and transfers after 11pm on Thursday before the game.
Please register your players.
Registration of Professionals

It is a League rule that if your club has engaged a professional you must submit a copy of the players redacted contract and the player must be registered through Play-Cricket.
Scoring

We are all finding our way around Play Cricket and we are now requiring scorers to have available a paper scorebook.
Scorers must be registered by club admins and allocated the roles of Scorer and Club Fixture and Results in the club play-cricket site.
To score a game it is advised to use the Play Cricket Scorer using the App on your phone or tablet.

Season Start Date

There is no doubt that the very wet weather is having a serious impact on the ability of clubs to prepare the ground for the coming season which is scheduled to start on Saturday 20th April.
The Board have been trying to find the right solution that both protects the competition and takes into account the condition of the ground and we feel there isn’t an easy answer.
After much debate and too numerous to mention emails from clubs asking for a delay to the season the Board have reached a decision on the start of season 2024.
The 2024 season will now commence on Saturday 27th April, which means the following:

The fixtures scheduled for Saturday 20th April will now be played on Sunday the 7th July.
Sunday fixtures scheduled for Sunday 7th July will now be played on Saturday 21st September.
The Sunday fixtures scheduled for 21st April will be rearranged by the two clubs on a mutually agreed date.
The Junior fixtures scheduled for week commencing Sunday 21st April will be rearranged by the two clubs on a mutually agreed date.

Umpires Courses for all standards

Umpires Courses

In March, there are 2 ECB Umpire Courses in the GMCL region,

the courses are designed to give new umpires the key skills, knowledge and confidence to stand as an umpire in cricket.
Whether you plan to support Junior Softball cricket through to adult cricket, this course will cover the following topics:

- Understanding the role of the umpire
- Gain a basic understanding of umpiring the game
- Answering appeals and the common methods of dismissal
- How to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the game
- Judging whether or not it is safe to play

The course is split into classroom and practical learning, so we recommend learners to come dressed appropriately.

The first one is Saturday 9 March 2024 at Bolton Indians CC.

GMCL allows member clubs to register their teams into our competitions annually to account for fluctuations in playing numbers and playing strength. If you have any questions about the form or registrations please e-mail If you are a member club and wish to add a new team, please add the team alongside your current teams.
It is important to remember that you should only register teams for which you have sufficient eligible players.

For the first time, our presentation will be including the GMCL Women's Softball League, we look forward to welcoming them to our annual event.

Dear Club Representative

As we end one season its very important at this time to reflect on the issues that have been raised during the season by both the clubs and the league we thought it important to arrange a meeting for all Clubs.
The meetings are scheduled below and you can decide which venue best suits your club to attend.
The points for discussion will include the following:

Amendments to Rule
Registrations and Transfers
Overseas Players
Juniors
Discipline
Grounds and Facilities
and any other issues raised by the clubs

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me at The views will be collated and a recommendation taken to a Board meeting later in September when players comments will be discussed along with the commercial aspects.
This exercise doesn't mean the balls we currently use will be changed it is purely to compare with others and to find the best ball at the best price for clubs.
I will arrange to get the balls dropped off with club officials/captains/players.

Lancashire over 70s

For a number of years Lancashire have entered successful senior teams in the over 50ties and over 60ties national inter - county competitions.
An over 70ties team has been entered into the 2024 national competition.
Games are played on Thursdays.

Tribute to Richard Connolly

Glodwick Cricket Club is devastated to report the death on 28th July 2023 of Richard Connolly at the
age of 52 following his 2 year battle with mesothelioma

Richard’s association and involvement with the Club spanned a period of more than 30 years. He was a stalwart of the first team during its North Manchester League days and then, during the
Saddleworth League and Pennine League days, he captained the second team for over a decade. was a fierce competitor with strong principles who set high standards both on and off the field
Richard became an inspirational coach for a generation of youngsters at Glodwick, seeing them to
many successes and ensuring a flood of young cricketers into the senior sides. He had also qualified as an umpire and was taking the first steps in that role when illness struck early
in 2021.
He was a tireless enthusiast for all things Glodwick, revelling in the annual tours to Hampshire and
our excursions to Barbados.
Richard’s funeral will take place on Tuesday 22nd August 2023 at 11am at Hollinwood Crematorium
Dress Code is anything Glodwick CC or Oldham Athletic related. A devoted family man, Richard leaves a wife, Lisa, and sons, Nathan and Matthew, both of whom
play for the Club. He will be sorely missed but his legacy will live on.
