The GMCL along with other Cricket Leagues have received the following information. Please be aware that we await further details and these will be circulated as soon as they are received.
The spirit of the guidance is that organised spectator events should not take place under Step 2 (12th April). We have articulated that the Government guidance is causing confusion across the wider sport sector and as a result we now have the following update:
We can confirm that outdoor hospitality and outdoor organised sport can take place at the same time. Patrons are permissible, subject to following the outdoor guidance on hospitality and wider social gathering limits (2 households or rules of 6), clubs should ensure they fully comply with the hospitality guidance prior to considering opening for outdoor hospitality.
Spectators are permissible under the previously outlined exemptions and we understand that clubs are not expected to control the wider public outside of their organised outdoor activity or hospitality. They are however expected to act responsibly in not promoting any breaches of Government guidance. However, sporting events that are intended to attract spectators (including ticketed events), or events that are likely to attract a significant number of spectators (e.g. a game with a large crowd) should not take place in a public space, or on private land, until step three (pending confirmation from the Government).
Government are due to publish additional guidance later today and as soon as we receive that we will be in a position to share the updated guidance ahead of Monday’s changes but wanted to share this important and welcome news with you as a matter of urgency. We will build on the FAQ document to ensure additional key questions are not only answered, but also consistent with other team sports where applicable.
