Fortunes swung one way and the other in Sunday’s seniorrepresentative game against the Northern League. A partnership of 99 between Danny Pawson and Sam Holden pulled the game back after finding themselves 24-2in only the sixth over. As so often happens, both partners fell in quicksuccession and there was a sudden tumble of wickets as Thompson found his length. At 145-7, things were no longer looking as rosy, but again a usefulpartnership emerged, this time between Denton West pair Michael Shum and LiamKilburn who pushed the score to 188 with Kilburn’s 29 off 13 balls proving pivotal. Shum stuck around until the end which realised a final score of 214,despite disappointingly failing to use up their allotted overs.
The visitors made a steady start and the concession of 27wides was a concern as the score moved into three figures with only two wicketsdown. Spin pair Hamish Dunlop and Andy Bradley then turned the screw, concedingjust 48 from their 18 overs and capturing four wickets between them. Despite alate flourish, Ryan Stanbury returned for a second spell and quickly removedthe tail leaving Sam Holden’s side winners by 32 runs.
