On Sunday representatives of both the GMCL and Liverpool Comp played in an annual inter-league game.
Here is a report from a GMCL colleague:
The Heywood ground looked a picture and they produced a wicket to do us proud. We had a couple of ‘cry offs’ on the morning due to injury (Chris Read and Danny Pawson) and so replacements had to be quickly found which we did with Steve Dearden and young Harry Singh. We won the toss and batted, we opened with Harry Singh from Woodbank and Siaf Bhojani from Walshaw, the unfortunate Bhojani was run out backing up for 1. In came Gavin Nichol from Woodbank who batted brilliantly and made 95, he was ably backed up by Greenmount’s Ryan Barker who made 46.. Others ‘chipped in ‘ notably Danny Partington from Egerton who made a ’quickfire’ 26 not out at the end of the innings. We finished on 212.
All the bowlers did a really good job with Nick Hardman of Woodhouses probably the pick of them. All chipped in, although there was nobody with outstanding figures. Our fielding was excellent throughout , and I have to say Danny Partington behind the ‘sticks’ was exceptional, he was responsible for two stumpings and three catches of which one, diving low to his right hand side, was simply outstanding... In the end we won by 40 odd runs..
A massive thanks to Heywood for hosting....Liverpool Comp for bringing a very competitive side.....all the players and officials.
Well done boys - you've done the GMCL proud!
