DLS is a scoring system for weather interrupted cricket matches, it provides two clear numbers for players, umpires and spectators to see the possibilities for a result and to do so these numbers must be updated on the scoreboard at the ground.
The numbers it provides are a revised target for the second innings where there has been any interruption during the game and a Par Score for the second innings to show the expected score at each point of the game after every ball has been recorded.
DLS on play-cricket is an automated system used throughout cricket for calculating a revised target in weather interrupted games.
Where weather interrupts a match after the start of the game during either or both innings and overs are lost then DLS will calculate a revised target for the team batting second at tea or at the resumption of play after each break in the second innings. The calculation is based on overs used, overs remaining and wickets lost and will be recalculated after these details are entered.
How to calculate the overs lost and when a chase can and cannot begin is detailed in the Rules for Weather Affected Games.
The Revised Target is always a whole number.
Score the Revised Target = Win (irrespective of overs faced out of the overs available)
Where the minimum overs have been faced and on the last available ball the team batting second score one less than Revised Target = Tie,
Where the minimum overs have been faced and on the last available ball the team batting second score less than Tie score = Loss
Revised Target not reached & 20 overs not bowled = 2 pts / bowl out in cup
