GMCL 2026 Sunday Competition

The 2026 Sunday competition is a change for the previous years.

The previous Regional, Open and Development leagues have not provided the competition required with clubs seeking different requirements for their squad year on year which has caused unfair match ups and therefore the league has returned to a single structure with the option of 18 games or 14 games (where participant numbers allow).

Structure 2026

For 2026 the structure will be :
Sunday Premier
Sunday Championship
Sunday Division 1
Sunday Division 2
Sunday Divisions 3

• Clubs were placed based on past performance in the Sunday Comp and the top four divisions are for clubs requesting 18 game seasons.
• There are 4 Sunday Divisions 3 in 2026 which contains new teams and those moving from the open and development leagues to create leagues for those requesting 18 games or 14 games where possible,
• For 2026 there were 19 requesting 18 games so we have created two divisions after regionalisation, one of 10 to give 18 games and one of 9 which gives 16 games.
• The remaining 26 clubs all wished for 14 games and so those two divisions are both 13 teams after regionalisation where the teams will all play each other once and play two teams twice, randomly selected to give 14 games each.

Promotion & Relegation

• Accepting that clubs requirements for Sunday cricket and the number of games required does change year on year, the skeleton for promotion & relegation is as follows, with changes possible dependent on the number of entrants.
• There will be promotion and relegation throughout so in 2026 it will be 3 up, 3 down between Sunday Divisions 2, 1, Chmp & Prem matching the Saturday competition. 
• At the end of the 2026 season, there will be 4 relegated from Sunday Division 2 and the four Division 3 winners will be promoted to the 2027 Division 2, they must play 18 games in Division 2.
• The four 2026 divisions 3 will be streamlined into Divisions 3,4, & 5 for 2027. Clubs wishing for 14 games will remain in the lower tier.
• The four relegated from 2026 Div 2 will join the 6 highest average points scoring teams from the 2026 Divisions 3 who were not promoted and they will form the 2027 Division 3 which will have 18 games.  
• The next remaining 10 teams from the four 2026 Divisions 3 who were not promoted or not place in the 2027 Division 3 will form the 2027 Division 4 to play 18 games.
• All remaining teams will have the option of 18 or 14 teams to form the new 2027 Sunday Divisions 5, with the numbers dependent on the number of entrants.
